Kofi Annan- A great person

ok so my person of the week and very deservedly is Kofi Annan.
No he is not my person of the week because he is my fellow country man(shout out to Ghana lol), or because he won the Nobel peace prize in 2001, or that he served for 10 yrs as the secretary general of the UN but rather because of his work to bring peace in Kenya.
Kofi Annan once said “In their greatest hour of need, the world failed the people of Rwanda.” but in Kenya's greatest hour of need he did not fail them preventing a possibility of the recurrence of the killings that happened in Rwanda. One article called his contributions as chief mediator magic. You may or may not have heard about the situation in kenya for the past 2 months, over rigged elections between president Mwai Kibaki and opposition party leader Raila Odinga. Before Kofi Annan other dignitaries tried to resolve the issue including current president of Ghana and president of the African Union, president Museveni of Uganda to no avail. What they were not able to Kofi Annan has done. At least for now a peace deal has been reached between the two parties for president Kibaki to retain his position and Odinga to become prime minister. positions in cabinet will be divided between the two parties etc. I could go on about the issues but i am very happy about this deal because over 1500 people died over the debacle and thousands of Kenyans are displaced as a result. For now i am glad its over we definitely have a long way to go but we have moved forward. I thank Kofi Annan For his hard work and not giving up when talks were stalling or it seemed the was no hope for peace. I also thank him for continuing to promote peace even though he is not secretary general any more and is therefore not required to deal with these kind of problems. lastly thanks to the president of Tanzania and chairman of the African Union Jakaya kikwete, i have read he played a key role during the last days b4 the deal.
